Relay UK service (run by BT)

The Relay UK service is designed for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech impairment.

You need to register your mobile number before using the service:

  • Text REGISTER to 999.
  • You will get a text which tells you what to do next.

Do this when it is safe so you can text when you are in danger.

Mobile App

  1. On the Relay UK app, simply tap the 999 button and then confirm to make an emergency call – or call 18000 on your phone
  2. Click ‘Join’ in the app window when it shows
  3. You’ll connect to 999 and a Relay Assistant
  4. Tell them which service you need (Police, Fire, Ambulance or Coast Guard)
  5. The 999 Operator will connect you to the right emergency service

Textphone

  1. Call 18000
  2. You’ll see ‘Emergency, which service? GA’ on your screen
  3. You’ll connect to 999 and a Relay Assistant
  4. Tell them which service you need then follow their responses on the textphone screen
  5. The 999 operator will connect you to the right emergency service
